Australian Cyclist Chloe Hosking

We were sitting on the edge of our seats as Fiducian sponsored Canberra road cyclist Chloe Hosking cycled her way to winning the Drentse 8 in the Netherlands on the 9th March. Chloe edged out Italian world champion Giorgia Brozini and Dutch star Marianne Vos in the final 250 metre sprint at the end of a 141 kilometre race. The race covers a figure eight course in the Dutch province of Drenthe and despite many attacks during the race none succeeded in staying clear and it came down to a fast bunch finish for race honours. Winning such a big race really improves Chloe’s chances for London later this year. Having supported Chloe for many years we were thrilled for her success and look forward to watching her future successes. Congratulations Chloe!

Vision Beyond Aus

Sydney Rotary is co-ordinating an international project called ‘Vision Beyond Aus’- which aims to provide free eye surgery to financially disadvantaged people in India and build bridges of friendship between the two countries. It is anticipated that this year approximately 100 visually impaired persons will receive surgery to restore their eyesight and in addition, over 700 patients could receive free consultation.
The project will send a team of four Australian eye surgeons, two anaesthetists, an orthoptist and a specialised ophthalmic nurse to India later this year where they will contribute their specialised skills and time at no cost. Dr. Jay Chandra a leading eye surgeon who has been providing free eye surgery in India and Fiji since 2002 will lead them.
Sydney Rotary has adopted the project and is assisting and coordinating logistics and purchasing additional equipment to expand and improve the poor facilities available in India. It is hoped that our support can help increase the number of eye operations and grow the project to further stages of development where it is recognised as a major foundation noted for its benevolent activities to the world community.
